「収束」「終息」は英語で何というのか？

「収束」は一旦落ちつくという意味らしいですが、「（コロナが）収束する」って英語でなんていうのかなと思ってネットで調べてみたら、"return to normal"という表現が対応しているようです。

The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is causing a lot of trouble around the world, and I hope things return to normal as soon as possible.

後半部分は「早くコロナウィルスが収束するといいですね」と訳されてますが、「事態ができるだけ早く通常に戻ることを願っています」みたいな感じです。return to normalの主語としては新型コロナウイルスを持ってこられないのですから、だいぶ違います。

"Will life ever return to normal after lockdown?"や"When Will life return to normal?"というタイトルの動画もヒットしましたが、主語は生活です。コロナではありませんから、厳密に言えば、収束する＝return to normalではないと言えます。

他にこんな文も出てきました。

Schools and kindergartens in Norway will from next week return almost entirely to normal after the government suspended the one-metre rule for schools, allowing whole classes to be taught together, and schools to return to normal hours.

returnとtoの間にalmost entirelyが挟まれています。コロナ禍が完全に終わるわけではない感覚がうまく表現できると思います。

このreturn to normalは名詞にもなって、Vaccine is essential for a return to normal.という表現も出てきました。

いったん終わる、混乱が収まるという意味の「収束」ではなく、何かが完全に終結することを意味する「終息」のほうでも調べてみると、こちらはいろんな表現があることがわかりました。

I hope the coronavirus goes away.
I hope the coronavirus gets stamped out.
I hope the coronavirus situation gets resolved.

こちらは、主語にコロナを据えることができます。最後のは硬い表現らしく、the coronavirusの後にsituationを入れるほうが収まりが良いとのこと。ネイティヴではないとわからない感覚ですね。
